DA VINCI'S PARACHUTE
De Havilland Watches confirmed its entrepreneurial spirit in the way it launched the company. In April 2008, the brand wrote a new page in the history of Man's command of the skies, with the inauguration of the very first parachute, invented by Leonardo Da Vinci in 1485.
Since the fifteenth century, nobody had ever tested this first, pyramidshaped "flying machine" invented by the Italian genius, who described and sketched it in his Codex Atlanticus. As the company's founding event, De Havilland Watches made this 523-year-old avant-garde dream come true by building Da Vinci's parachute and proving it could work, helped by Swiss parachutist olivier Vietti.
This was a way for the new company to legitimise the motto borrowed from Da Vinci: "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication", and to demonstrate its will to apply it by adhering to a long tradition of pioneers in the fields of aeronautics and technical innovation, improving on it with performances permitted by modern resources and know-how.
